Prompting the shahādah
শাহাদাহ স্মরণ
Say it gently in their presence so they may follow. Do not command them, and stop once they have said it.
তার সামনে নরম স্বরে বলুন যেন সে অনুসরণ করতে পারে। আদেশ করবেন না; একবার বলে ফেললে থেমে যান।
لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ
লা ইলাহা ইল্লাল্লাহ

আল্লাহ ছাড়া কোনো ইলাহ নেই।
There is no god but Allah.

Those who will not weep aloud. Turn the face toward the qiblah.

03The moment of deathমৃত্যুর মুহূর্তে
1 Close the eyes and bind the jaw.
চোখ বন্ধ করুন ও চোয়াল বেঁধে দিন।
2 Cover the whole body with a cloth.
পুরো শরীর কাপড়ে ঢেকে দিন।
3 Hasten the washing, prayer and burial.
গোসল, নামায ও দাফন দ্রুত সম্পন্ন করুন।
4 Settle their debts without delay.
বিলম্ব না করে তার ঋণ পরিশোধ করুন।
5 Inform the family and the community.
পরিবার ও সমাজকে জানান।

আল্লাহুম্মাগ্ফির লি-ফুলান ওয়ার্ফা‘ দারাজাতাহু ফিল-মাহদিয়্যীন
Allāhumma-ghfir li-[name] warfa‘ darajatahu fil-mahdiyyīn
হে আল্লাহ, অমুককে ক্ষমা করুন এবং হিদায়াতপ্রাপ্তদের মধ্যে তার মর্যাদা উন্নীত করুন।
O Allah, forgive [name] and raise his rank among the rightly guided.

Ask that Allah succeed him well in those he leaves behind, and grant them patience.
দু‘আ করুন, আল্লাহ যেন তার রেখে যাওয়া লোকদের মধ্যে তার স্থান উত্তমভাবে পূরণ করেন এবং তাদের ধৈর্য দেন।
Say lahā in place of lahu for a woman, and name the deceased where [name] stands.
নারীর ক্ষেত্রে লাহু-র স্থানে লাহা বলুন, আর [নাম]-এর জায়গায় মৃতের নাম বলুন।

Who washes
কে গোসল দেবেন
Those of the same sex; a spouse may wash a spouse. Screen the body and keep what is seen in confidence.
একই লিঙ্গের লোক; স্বামী-স্ত্রী একে অন্যকে গোসল দিতে পারেন। শরীর আড়াল করুন এবং যা দেখা যায় তা গোপন রাখুন।
Steps

1 Cover from navel to knee throughout.
শুরু থেকে শেষ পর্যন্ত নাভি থেকে হাঁটু ঢেকে রাখুন।
2 Press the abdomen gently to expel what remains, a cloth on the hand.
হাতে কাপড় জড়িয়ে পেটে আলতো চাপ দিয়ে ভেতরের বর্জ্য বের করুন।
3 Perform wuḍū upon the body, without water in mouth or nose.
শরীরে ওযূ করান; মুখ ও নাকে পানি দেবেন না।
4 Wash the head and beard with lote leaf, or soap.
বরইপাতা বা সাবান দিয়ে মাথা ও দাড়ি ধুয়ে দিন।

5 Wash the right side, then the left — three, five or seven times.

Wash an odd number of times, and more only if the body is not yet clean.

Of four months or more: washed, named and prayed over. Before that, washed and buried without the prayer.

Plain white cloth is the sunnah, paid from the estate before debts and bequests.
সাদা সাধারণ কাপড়ই সুন্নাহ; ঋণ ও ওসিয়তের আগে সম্পদ থেকে এর খরচ নেওয়া হয়।

Three white sheets, each wrapping the whole body. Fold the left edge over, then the right, for each in turn.

সুগন্ধি
Perfume the shroud, except for one who died in iḥrām — neither perfumed nor the head covered, for they are raised pronouncing the talbiyah.
কাফনে সুগন্ধি দিন; তবে ইহরাম অবস্থায় মৃত ব্যক্তিকে সুগন্ধি দেওয়া হয় না, মাথাও ঢাকা হয় না — কারণ সে তালবিয়া পড়া অবস্থায় উঠবে।

বাঁধা
Tie the ends above the head and below the feet; untie them once the body is laid in the grave.
মাথার উপরে ও পায়ের নিচে প্রান্ত বেঁধে দিন; কবরে রাখার পর খুলে দিন।

The shroud is a right of the deceased, taken from the estate before all other claims.
কাফন মৃতের অধিকার; অন্য সব দাবির আগে সম্পদ থেকে তা নেওয়া হয়।
10Ṣalāt al-Janāzahজানাযার নামায
Standing only — no bowing, no prostration, no adhān and no iqāmah. Four takbīrs, then one salām.
শুধু দাঁড়িয়ে — রুকূ‘, সিজদা, আযান ও ইকামত নেই। চার তাকবীর, তারপর এক সালাম।
Takbīr 1 — raise the hands, then recite al-Fātiḥah.
তাকবীর ১ — হাত উঠিয়ে সূরা ফাতিহা পড়ুন।
Takbīr 2 — the ṣalāt upon the Prophet ﷺ, as in the tashahhud.
তাকবীর ২ — তাশাহহুদের মতো দরূদ পড়ুন।
Takbīr 3 — the du‘ā for the deceased (cards 12–13).
তাকবীর ৩ — মৃতের জন্য দু‘আ (কার্ড ১২–১৩)।
Takbīr 4 — pause, ask for yourself and the Muslims, then salām to the right.
তাকবীর ৪ — একটু থেমে নিজের ও মুসলিমদের জন্য দু‘আ করে ডানে সালাম ফিরান।

11Where they differমাযহাবভেদ
Al-Fātiḥah — obligatory per S and Ḥb; Ḥ recites the opening praise instead; M confines it to praise and du‘ā.
সূরা ফাতিহা — শাফি‘ঈ ও হানবালী মতে ওয়াজিব; হানাফী মতে সানা পড়া হয়; মালিকী মতে প্রশংসা ও দু‘আই যথেষ্ট।
Raising the hands — at every takbīr per S, Ḥb and Ḥ; at the first alone per M.
হাত উঠানো — শাফি‘ঈ, হানবালী ও হানাফী মতে প্রতি তাকবীরে; মালিকী মতে শুধু প্রথমে।
Salām — one to the right per Ḥ, M and Ḥb; two are permitted per S.
সালাম — হানাফী, মালিকী ও হানবালী মতে ডানে একটি; শাফি‘ঈ মতে দুটিও জায়েয।

নাসর ইবনু আলী আল জাহযামী ও ইসহাক ইবনু ইবরাহীম, আবুত তহির ও হারূন ইবনু সাঈদ আল আয়লী (রহঃ) [শব্দগুলো আবূ তহির-এর] ... আওফ ইবনু মালিক আল আশজাঈ (রাযিঃ) থেকে বর্ণিত। তিনি বলেন, আমি নবী সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম কে জানাযার সালাতে এভাবে দু'আ করতে শুনেছিঃ “আল্ল-হুমমাগফিরলাহু ওয়ারহামহু ওয়াফু আনহু ওয়া-আ-ফিহী ওয়া আকরিম নুযুলাহ্ ওয়াসসি' মুদখালাহ্ ওয়াগসিলহু বিমা-য়িন ওয়াসালজিন ওয়াবারাদিন ওয়ানাক্কীহী মিনাল খাতা-ইয়া- কামা- ইউনাক্কাস সাওবুল আবইরায়ু মিনাদদানাস ওয়া আবদিলহু দা-রান খায়রাম মিন দা-রিহী ওয়া আহলান খায়রাম মিন আহলিহী ওয়া যাওজান খায়রাম মিন যাওজিহী ওয়াক্বিহী ফিতনাতিল কবরি ওয়া'আযা-বিন না-র” (অর্থাৎ- "হে আল্লাহ! তাকে ক্ষমা করে দাও ও তার প্রতি দয়া কর। তার ক্রটি মার্জন কর ও তাকে বিপদ মুক্ত কর। তার উত্তম আপ্যায়নের ব্যবস্থা কর ও তার আশ্রয়স্থলকে প্রশস্ত করে দাও। তাকে পানি, বরফ ও বৃষ্টি দিয়ে ধুয়ে মুছে দাও। তাকে পাপরাশ থেকে এভাবে পরিষ্কার করে দাও যেভাবে সাদা কাপড়কে ময়লা থেকে পরিষ্কার করা হয়। তাকে তার বর্তমান ঘরের পরিবর্তে আরও উত্তম ঘর দান কর, তার পরিবার থেকে উত্তম পরিবার দান কর, বর্তমান স্ত্রী অপেক্ষা উত্তম স্ত্রী দান কর এবং তাকে কবর আযাব ও জাহান্নামের আযাব থেকে বাচাও )। আওফ ইবনু মালিক (রাযিঃ) বলেন, ঐ মৃত ব্যক্তির প্রতি রসূলুল্লাহসাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম এর এরূপ দু’আ দেখে মনে আকাঙ্ক্ষা জাগল যে, আমি যদি এ মৃত ব্যক্তি হতাম। (ইসলামী ফাউন্ডেশন ২১০৩, ইসলামীক সেন্টার)
Jubair b. Nufair says:I heard it from 'Auf b. Malik that the Prophet (ﷺ) said prayer on the dead body, and I remembered his prayer:" O Allah! forgive him, have mercy upon him, give him peace and absolve him. Receive him with honour and make his grave spacious; wash him with water, snow and hail. Cleanse him from faults as Thou wouldst cleanse a white garment from impurity. Requite him with an abode more excellent than his abode, with a family better than his family, and with a mate better than his mate. Admit him to the Garden, and protect him from the torment of the grave and the torment of the Fire." ('Auf bin Malik) said: I earnestly desired that I were this dead body

হে আল্লাহ, তাকে ক্ষমা করুন ও তার প্রতি দয়া করুন; তাকে নিরাপদ রাখুন ও মাফ করুন; তার অবস্থান সম্মানিত করুন ও প্রবেশপথ প্রশস্ত করুন; পানি, বরফ ও শিলা দিয়ে তাকে ধুয়ে দিন এবং সাদা কাপড় যেভাবে ময়লামুক্ত করা হয়, সেভাবে তাকে গুনাহ থেকে পরিচ্ছন্ন করুন।
O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him; keep him safe and pardon him; honour his abode and widen his entry; wash him with water, snow and hail, and cleanse him of sin as a white garment is cleansed of grime.

13Du‘ā · for a childশিশুর দু‘আ
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ فَرَطًا وَذُخْرًا لِوَالِدَيْهِ، وَشَفِيعًا مُجَابًا
আল্লাহুম্মাজ‘আলহু ফারাতান ওয়া যুখরান লি-ওয়ালিদাইহি, ওয়া শাফী‘আন মুজাবান
Allāhumma-j‘alhu faraṭan wa dhukhran li-wālidayh, wa shafī‘an mujāban
হে আল্লাহ, তাকে তার পিতামাতার জন্য অগ্রগামী ও সঞ্চয় বানান, এবং কবুলযোগ্য সুপারিশকারী করুন।
O Allah, make him one who goes ahead, a treasure for his parents, and an intercessor whose plea is answered.

No forgiveness is sought for one who never bore obligation; ask instead for their parents.

14The burialদাফন
1 Walk with the bier, and do not sit until it is set down.
খাটিয়ার সঙ্গে হাঁটুন; নামানো পর্যন্ত বসবেন না।
2 A niche (laḥd) in the qiblah wall is preferred to a trench.
কবরের কিবলার দিকে লাহদ বানানো শাক্ক অপেক্ষা উত্তম।
3 Lower the body from the direction of the feet.
পায়ের দিক থেকে লাশ নামান।
4 Lay it on the right side, facing the qiblah, and untie the shroud.
ডান কাত করে কিবলামুখী শোয়ান ও কাফনের বাঁধন খুলে দিন।
5 Close the niche with unbaked brick, then fill the grave.
কাঁচা ইট দিয়ে লাহদ বন্ধ করে কবর ভরাট করুন।
6 Each present casts three handfuls of earth from the head end.
উপস্থিত প্রত্যেকে মাথার দিক থেকে তিন মুঠো মাটি দিন।
7 Raise the grave a hand’s span and mark it with a plain stone.
কবর এক বিঘত উঁচু করুন এবং সাধারণ পাথর দিয়ে চিহ্নিত করুন।

আবূ বকর ইবনু আবূ শায়বাহ ও যুবায়র ইবনু হারব (রহঃ) ..... সুলায়মান ইবনু বুরায়দাহ (রহঃ) তার পিতা [বুরায়দাহ ইবনু হুসায়ব ইবনু আবদুল্লাহ (রাযিঃ)] থেকে বর্ণনা করেন। তিনি বলেন, তারা যখন কবরস্থানে যেতেন, রসূলুল্লাহ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম তাদেরকে দু'আ শিখিয়ে দিতেন। অতঃপর তাদের মধ্যে কোন ব্যক্তি আবূ বাকর এর বর্ণনানুযায়ী বলত "আসসালা-মু আলা- আহলিদ দিয়া-র” (অর্থাৎ- কবরবাসীদের প্রতি আল্লাহর শান্তি বর্ষিত হোক।)। আর যুহায়র-এর বর্ণনায় আছেঃ "আসসালা-মু আলায়কুম আহলাদ দিয়া-র মিনাল মুমিনীনা ওয়াল মুসলিমীনা ওয়া ইন্না- ইনশা-আল্ল-হু লালা-হিকূনা আসআলুল্ল-হা লানা- ওয়ালাকুমুল আ-ফিয়াহু" (অর্থাৎ- হে কবরবাসী ঈমানদার মুসলিমগণ! তোমাদের প্রতি সালাম। আল্লাহ চাহে তো আমরাও তোমাদের সাথে মিলিত হব। আমি আমাদের ও তোমাদের জন্য আল্লাহর নিকট নিরাপত্তার আবেদন জানাচ্ছি।)। (ইসলামী ফাউন্ডেশন ২১২৬, ইসলামীক সেন্টার)
Sulaiman b. Buraida narrated on the authority of his father that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to teach them when they went out to the graveyard. One of the narrators used to say this in the narration transmitted on the authority of Abu Bakr:" Peace be upon the inhabitants of the city (i. e. graveyard)." In the hadith transmitted by Zuhair (the words are):" Peace be upon you, the inhabitants of the city, among the believers, and Muslims, and God willing we shall join you. I beg of Allah peace for us and for you

إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، اللَّهُمَّ أْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي وَأَخْلِفْ لِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا
ইন্না লিল্লাহি ওয়া ইন্না ইলাইহি রাজি‘ঊন, আল্লাহুম্মা’জুরনী ফী মুসীবাতী ওয়া আখলিফ লী খাইরান মিনহা
Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rāji‘ūn, Allāhumma’jurnī fī muṣībatī wa akhlif lī khayran minhā
নিশ্চয়ই আমরা আল্লাহরই এবং তাঁরই কাছে ফিরে যাব। হে আল্লাহ, আমার বিপদে আমাকে প্রতিদান দিন এবং এর চেয়ে উত্তম বদল দিন।
To Allah we belong and to Him we return. O Allah, reward me in my affliction and replace it with better.

Three days at most — a widow, four months and ten days. Tears are permitted; wailing and striking the face are not. Neighbours prepare food for the household.
সর্বোচ্চ তিন দিন — বিধবার জন্য চার মাস দশ দিন। অশ্রু জায়েয; বিলাপ ও মুখে আঘাত করা নয়। প্রতিবেশীরা পরিবারের জন্য খাবারের ব্যবস্থা করবেন।

Building over or plastering graves, sitting or praying toward them, and appointed third- or fortieth-day gatherings.
